La intuición

Por hacerlo breve diré que la intuición es la otra inteligencia que tenemos para resolver situaciones y problemas de todo ámbito. Es la capacidad de percibir aquello que no se ve o que aún no ha pasado.

Sin duda me atrevo a asegurar que es imposible ser Propietario si no se usa la intuición.

No diré que la intuición es un secreto bien guardado, pero sí que nadie te va a explicar la magia que tiene.

Desde luego, la intuición es tan importante como la inteligencia racional, basada en el análisis de la información que disponemos para solventar cualquier situación.

Entonces, si la intuición es tan importante y la tiene todo el mundo, ¿por qué no lo percibimos en nuestra vida cotidiana?

Pues porque cuando las decisiones que debemos tomar tienen consecuencias de importancia, decidimos escuchar o consultar a otras personas que parecen tener mejor criterio o que están mejor preparadas.

Y eso está bien, pero demasiada gente le da más valor o confianza a consejos de otras personas que no arriesgan nada y, por el contrario, desconfían de su propia intuición.

Y lo cierto es que, todas las personas diariamente tomamos decisiones importantes usando únicamente la intuición. Pero no la ponemos en valor porque nadie te explica cómo usarla o por qué debemos confiar en ella.

Te lo demuestro. Puedes preguntarles a personas que han logrado sus objetivos, por qué actuaron en ocasiones en contra de todas las opiniones, advertencias o consejos que les dieron y, a pesar de ello, llevaron a cabo sus proyectos con éxito solo con decisiones propias.

Sabemos que la mayoría de los proyectos empresariales circulan por mapas bien diseñados donde se fijan todos los puntos que queremos alcanzar.

Sin embargo, ocurre que no vamos solos, otras compañías circulan con nosotros. Y desde luego, también existen puntos de control, tramites y dificultades que hay que superar.

Y te aseguro que las grandes decisiones con malos resultados o erróneas, tomadas por los propietarios, se dan por dejar al margen la intuición.

Con seguridad, muchas decisiones se han tomado en base a datos, opiniones grupales, consenso en el equipo directivo, datos de mercado, evolución del sector, etc. y seguro que todo eso está perfecto, pero al propietario le pasa algo por dentro que le dice -por aquí no-. Es entonces que es el momento de dejar que la intuición venga a resolverlo.

En ocasiones vas a tener que tomar decisiones que no están previstas en el plan de empresa y que tu equipo no tomará por ti. Ni siquiera tú mismo sabrás que hay que hacer.

Así, tomar la decisión de comprar papel para la fotocopiadora se resuelve en un segundo. Pero si la decisión consiste en reestructurar la plantilla, aumentar el crédito para inversión, resolver una demanda, abrir nuevas delegaciones o una crisis en operaciones de la compañía, el tiempo de decisión va a ser otro.

Y es cierto, las cosas no siempre están a la vista, y los resultados o consecuencias de una decisión no son visibles para la mayoría de tu equipo. Es más, ellos te dirán que no se puede hacer. Pero tu intuición ya te está diciendo que sí se puede, ya sólo debes esperar a cómo hay que hacerlo.

Definitivamente, los propietarios están conectados las 24 horas los 365 días del año con su compañía y la viven en su interior. Por ese motivo, cuando se presenta una situación complicada el propietario debe esperar a que el problema cree la sustancia necesaria para que la solución llegue, y en ese momento hay que tener paciencia.

También te anticipo que la intuición no se puede cronometrar. Tampoco es un plan escrito, ni descartar opciones, hacer cálculos de daños o ganancias, estimaciones, probabilidades o una idea en la cabeza. La intuición es magia y es sobrevenida.

Una obviedad: El tiempo requerido para la toma de una decisión para la solución de un problema, viene dado por las consecuencias que conllevará el llevarla a cabo.

Podrá pasar un día, dos o una semana, pero te lo aseguro, la intuición nunca te va a fallar; llegará y será lo correcto.

Cuando llega, en ese momento ya sabes que debes hacer y trazar el plan de solución ya será fácil.

Aunque convencer a tu equipo o socio e imponer tu voluntad a toda costa, te va a suponer algún esfuerzo adicional.

To put it briefly, intuition is another form of intelligence we possess for resolving situations and problems in all areas. It’s the ability to perceive what is unseen or has not yet happened.

I dare say that it is impossible to be an Owner without using intuition.

I won’t say that intuition is a well-kept secret, but I will say that no one is going to explain to you the magic it holds.

Of course, intuition is as important as rational intelligence, based on the analysis of the information we must solve any situation.

So, if intuition is so important and everyone has it, why don’t we perceive it in our daily lives?

Because when the decisions we must make have important consequences, we decide to listen to or consult other people who seem to have better judgment or who are better prepared.

And that’s fine, but too many people give more value or trust to advice from other people who don’t risk anything and, on the contrary, distrust their own intuition.

And the truth is, we all make important decisions every day using only intuition. But we don’t value it because no one explains how to use it or why we should trust it.

I’ll prove it to you. You can ask people who have achieved their goals why they sometimes acted against all the opinions, warnings, or advice they were given, and yet, they successfully carried out their projects solely through their own decisions.

We know that most business projects follow well-designed maps where all the points we want to reach are set.

However, we’re not alone; other companies are traveling with us. And of course, there are also checkpoints, procedures, and difficulties to overcome.

And I assure you that major decisions with bad or erroneous results, made by owners, occur because intuition is disregarded.

Undoubtedly, many decisions have been made based on data, group opinions, consensus within the management team, market data, industry trends, and so on, and all of that is certainly fine, but something inside the owner tells them, «This isn’t the way.» That’s when it’s time to let intuition take over and resolve the issue.

Sometimes you’ll have to make decisions that aren’t in the business plan and that your team won’t make for you. Even you might not know what needs to be done.

Thus, deciding to buy paper for the photocopier takes only a second. But if the decision involves restructuring the workforce, increasing investment credit, resolving a lawsuit, opening new branches, or addressing a crisis in the company’s operations, the decision time will be significantly longer.

And it’s true, things aren’t always obvious, and the results or consequences of a decision aren’t visible to most of your team. What’s more, they’ll tell you it can’t be done. But your intuition is already telling you it can; you just must wait to see how it needs to be done.

Owners are connected to their company 24/7, 365 days a year, and it’s something they experience firsthand. Therefore, when a difficult situation arises, the owner must wait for the problem to develop enough to allow for a solution to emerge, and in that time, patience is key.

I should also tell you that intuition can’t be timed. It’s not a written plan, nor is it discarding options, calculating damages or gains, making estimates, probabilities, or even just an idea in your head. Intuition is magic, and it comes unexpectedly.

An obvious fact: The time required to decide to solve a problem is determined by the consequences of carrying it out.

It may take a day, two days, or a week, but I assure you, your intuition will never fail you; it will come, and it will be the right thing.

When it arrives, at that moment you already know what you must do and drawing up the solution plan will be easy.

Although convincing your team or partner and imposing your will at all costs will require some additional effort.
